DanicaDanica Sue Patrick, an American former professional racing driver. Danica Sue Patrick is among the top-performing American woman open-wheel racing driver. Her win at the Indy Japan 300 in 2008 was her first major win. In 1998, she resigned from high school and relocated to England to continue her career. Patrick competed in Formula Vauxhall, Formula Ford prior to returning to the United States in 2001. In 2002 she raced in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races for Rahal Letterman Racing. Patrick was an official Toyota Atlantic Series racer for the following two seasons. She placed third in the championship standings for the 2004 season. In the process, she became the first woman to be crowned the winner of the series. She was named the 2005 IndyCar Series Rookie of Year. She saw improvement throughout the following two seasons with Rahal Letterman Racing 2006, and later Andretti Green Racing 2007. Patrick was ranked sixth overall in the drivers' standings in 2008 after her Japan win. In the following season, she improved upon this and placed fifth overall in the drivers' standings. She also finished the third best of her career at Indianapolis 500, which was the highest performance by a female racer at the event. Patrick's overall form dropped during the year, but she did manage to finish second at the oval tracks. Then she quit IndyCar in 2011 to focus on stock car racing full-time.
